1. President-elect Donald Trump opened up a surprising rift with U.S. intelligence agencies, lashing out over their assessments that Russian hackers acted covertly to further his campaign.

“To have the president-elect of the United States simply reject the fact-based narrative that the intelligence community puts together because it conflicts with his a priori assumptions â€" wow,” said Michael V. Hayden, a former director of the N.S.A. and C.I.A.

Other top Republicans are vowing investigations into Kremlin activities.
